A Fumbled Flight from Start to Finish, Three years into his hero gig and somehow Superman still feels like he’s doing a trial run. Metropolis Mayhem… The city’s under attack from a hulking monster and civilians stroll around like they’re out for ice cream? The scene breaks any tension the film tried to build. Stakes? Danger? Panic? None. Nicolas Hoult gives Lex some edge — the presence is there, but the writing lets him down. He’s more erratic than genius, and the character lacks the strategic menace. Dialogue is clunky, bouncing between try-hard quips and pseudo-intellectual monologues. Tone swings so wildly it feels like three films crashed into each other. This version of Superman feels like it was built on committee notes and Twitter discourse. For fans who grew up on Man of Steel, the animated classics, or even Smallville, this ain't it.
