KURUP(2021) DIRECTION-SRINATH RAJENDRAN . The fate of Kurup- India's longest wanted fugitive, came to unfold itself on 12th November 2021.The long wait to see the cinematic portrayal of the Notorious Kurup came to an end today morning. . KURUP is a stylish crime drama filled with above average performance of the lead actors , brilliant cinematography, electrifying bgms ,stylish coustumes ,and overly beautiful locations mostly signifying the 80's timeline gave an head-on to the overall experience. KURUP by Srinath Rajendran ,the project that got into shape through 10 years of research and hardwork never failed to satisfy the mass audience,but for a person who took keen interest in finding out the real events that took place on 1984 January 22( from the case studies by late forensic surgeon Dr B Umadathan and also the interviews given by the police officials who investigated the case at that time which includes the footages of retired superintendent of police George Joseph Sir) might not be fully satisfied from the 2hr 20 min onscreen portryal. A crime thriller based on real incidents which was said to be a perfect blend of fact and fiction was somehow met ,but the ratio of fact to fiction felt a bit low value.The thriller mood was failed to set up during the first hour of the movie and felt a bit dramatic due to the exaggerated romantic portion and also some events that are used to establish the overall character of KURUP..But the movie gained momentum during the final minutes of first half..The later half was more into crime side but somewhere felt a bit cinematic..then only I realised the use of cinematic liberaty and tried to capture the cinematic moments like a fanboy..but couldnt retain the grip since deep inside I knew that things might not have happened this way,this is more of a fictional figure.. actually it is..since the place, character and events are fictional and do not try to character assassinate anyone or anything.

Looks like it has a market all over the world.. Ranging from "Psycho" to "Memories of murder" to "Silence of the lambs" to "zodiac"..In mollywood also 2020 was welcomed by ANJAAM PATHIRA... so the challenge was right there... There shouldn't be any common elements between the movies except being a thriller and the directorial crew had come out with flying colors... FORENSIC.. The most crucial department related to crimes.. The movie is narrated through the eyes of a medico legal adviser Samuel John katookaran aka Sam portrayed by Tovino Thomas.. Bags his first investigation thriller..out of instincts and his experience he finds a lead that extends to the BURMA COLONY child abductor..who abduct girl child of age btw 8-12..who were later found murdered..Sam tracks down a victim pattern. This seat of the edge thriller written and director by Anas Khan and Akhil Paul.. Latter was known for the 2014 thriller "7th day"so after seeing the teaser n trailer thought Sam maybe the killer... 😂😂😂.. But on detailed approach of it showed the presence of the accused in many shots.. He stabs the victim under the ribcage makes a 10 cm deep with a single edged weapon.. "We might be looking at a very different type of crime" There at that instant story gains momentum.. All the shots are brilliantly captured by Akhil George in blend with the thrilling bgms by Jakes Bejoy.. And the editing by Shameer Mohammed was also so very crisp.. Truly an extremely engaging, psychic and highly promising first half with the standards far far above the conventional thriller standards.. Twists n turns delivered at an entirely new manner.. On the latter part.. There layed the motive... And who... Why... All got solved... A justifiable way to wrap up the shot... The movie begins with the quote "there are no elevators to success,you have to take the stairs" Later moved to"There are only 2 kinds of people..there are masters and there are slaves"and finally to "it's not the end"...Trance, the most awaited project since 2017...all because of 3 great personas.. The brilliant director Anwar Rasheed, the cult and stylish cinematographer Amal Neeradh and the one and only person who rose to receive the prestigious Academy Awards on behalf of God's on country.. Rasool pookuty... And along with them the most finest flexible and versatile actor Fahadh Fazil... When these men unite.. The expectations are much much above the horizon... Trance.. Before fdfs my finding was it's a temporary state of mind in which one is not completely conscious about what's happening around him or not in a control of himself... He feels high... After watching the trailer I had a very gut feeling that there is something unsual.. Something extraordinary is gonna happen... And the phrase"I don't live in your reality "clarified my instict... If trance is gonna lead u to a trance then u will find baptized... Trans is a fairy tale of viju prasad an acclaimed motivation speaker hailing from kanyakumari.. circumstances lead him to mumbai and later back to kochi...this journey that lead him through the trance and comes out an extremely different persona...the transformation..The influence of the most powerful and potent drug.. Yes RELIGION... The divine the Almighty presence of the saviour communicated by the middle men told as messengers of God promises to bring miracle in everyone's life( seeking revenue). Yeah.. The most legal revenue made from the public in the name of God.. That theme every writer and director fears to touch..as, they know the consequences faced by pk and TIYAAN.. Anwar Rasheed and Vincent vadakkan had made an excellent remark in the malayalm film industry.. All the frames were dynamically captured by the legendary Amal Neeradh 🔥🔥the usage of Cinibot and the synsound by Rasool pookuty are also highly appreciatable... Each and every cast had done their duties to utmost.. An excellent and exentric first half worth unimaginable shots and execution became a much and second half beginned with a bang but exploded somewhere in the middle ..all hopes for an extraordinary state had eloped..The performances of Gautham menon, srinadh bhasi, vinayakan, chemban are highly appreciable..The retarted growth of sound script became clearly evident.. There also dop created a magical cover to all the earthly faults... Totally an entirely new experience from mollywood with its stylish and class filmmaking .. Caesar..Your sleepless nights are coming... Even the trailer came with this tagline... So as the movie... Felt like the beginning of something unusual..triggered a chain of incidents (not pleasing).. Yeah... A serial killer has born somewhere in the heart of the city who seeks pleasure in piercing out heart of the lawkeepers(cops).. Panic... Alertness... Red tone... Yellow tone.. Hmm.. Situation had become serious..The cops become helpless and seeks help from the protagonist Anwar Hussain played by Kunjacko Boban who is a consulting psychologist who has a major interest in criminal psychology .. As soon as he reached the crime spot.. He understood everything was out of his league... Out of his experience he got a gut feeling that the incidents might continue.... For a reason... He alerts the cops... Yeah... The psychic... Sleepless.. Enignmnatic nights have started.. Who? What? Why?.. Followed by more and more... Tries to find a lead but eventually it happens to be a deadend.And what happens in the fifth night..will there be more nights.if you wanna know..grab the tickets😜... An engaging storytelling by Mithun Manuel Thomas.. Electrifying bgms by Sushin syam... Intensifying frames by Shyju Khalid.. And an uncompromising piece of editing by saiju sreedharan... Truely a benchmark of mollywood thrillers of the recent times.. An extraordinarily engaging first half followed by a satisfying second half... A thriller to start the millennium... I always had a feeling.. If Korean movies can.. Then why can't we? This question is somehow met...
