This is my issue with sequels - they often try to outdo the first one by adding too many characters and too many subplots. Sadly, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice also falls victim to this. Michael Keaton is a showstopper as Beetlejuice; unfortunately, I felt like there just wasn't enough of him. His raunchy, crass sense of humor also seemed to be missing. Catherine O'Hara reprising her role as Delia is another shining star. In addition, if something was popular or funny in the first film, they've got to beat you over the head with it in the sequel (aka the shrunken head guys). The plot is clunky with too many subplots and non-essential characters that just have no reason to be there. I came for Beetlejuice's wisecracking wit, sarcastic humor and inappropriate devilish antics. I left with a burning desire to watch the first Beetlejuice film, and recapture the true essence of the ghost with the most.
