Reminiscent of a Knights Tale in regards to soundtrack over period piece. Dug the movie and the characters played. Got shook by the untimely death of one of the characters. I can see critics not understanding some cultural nuances throughout and giving substandard reviews. Although there were parts that slowed down or questionable choices in regards to character motivation, the movie as a whole was very enjoyable. It wasn't written for critics but for an audience who might not realize blacks actually had towns like this in the west. Very Quentin esque queues throughout. Solid flick.
