Cool premise, but so ham-fisted in execution. The main character and everyone involved in her scheme, from the doctor to the nursing home to the painfully clueless judge have you buy in immediately to disliking them. Then comes the plot twist, where she exploits a woman with connections. But as those connections spring into action, these mafia types who are supposed to be so dire and threatening, are so bungling as to be comical. The only point of attack they try is the main character. They didn't try to get the doctor to change their diagnosis or to buy off the nursing home manager.
And when things do turn violent, the main character and the people close to her are given plot armor as thick as a tank.
In the end, the only real threat was the one that was dismissed early on, and that wasn't a surprise either, it seemed entirely likely from the beginning.
