While the story-line is often somber in its subject matter and events, there are quite enough shining moments to keep it from becoming too bleak. It is also a stark reminder that for some, this totalitarian society is a reality. While we don't see other cultures using handmaids, we see that women are still property with little available to protect their rights or freedoms. It makes me want to become a better advocate.
