This film is another story about how through a knowing someone in a position of prestige allows a person down on their luck to obtain what otherwise would have been impossible. Frankly, I don't know why there are reviews that criticize this movie; especially, Robert Pattinson's acting. I found nothing wrong with his interpretation of a the evolution of a basically penniless man into one accepted into the upper echelons of French society his facial expressions become more sardonic with a hint of ennui. He isn't the first main character who is given a chance to climb up the social ladder & he won't be the last. It's a bit scary how easily he makes the transition; but, then he's smart enough to make the best of the opportunities he's been given. He makes the necessary sacrifices to keep hold of his new position & is willing to do so as it is much better to be sure of where one's next meal if coming from than to have to endless worry about it.
