Show begins with terrible writing but awesome fights, and eventually the fights get bad so you're stuck with the worst of both worlds. Season 2 is cool, but all of the major plot focus is retconned or made trivial by the end of the season. Season 3 is the only season where the plot matters and the animation is consistently solid, and you feel invested. Season 4 is an entire season about exposition and watching the main characters walk for a bunch of episodes, and the fights suck. Main characters never evolve from their initial personality trait (Ruby likes weapons! Did you know Ruby likes weapons? She likes weapons, and misses her dead mom, but that isn't relevant to the plot at all because she never acts on it!), or when they do, it's a complete 180 within the next minute or two (Weiss is a racist! Just kidding, she's no longer racist even though her father runs a mining company that uses mostly minority slave labor but she's not racist! Look! It doesn't even matter that most of the characters beat up these minorities for the rest of the show!). Watch Cowboy Bebop again or something, it'll be a better experience.
