I absolutely loved Downton, by far the best thing on TV for years, my fav characters were The Dowager and Carson and my least were O'Brien and the annoying Daisy. A place like Downton with 300 rooms would in reality have had far more staff, not just Mrs Patmore who appeared to be the sole cook, there would have been a small army of cleaners and other servants, groundsmen, gardeners, gamekeepers, but the budget for the program is not boundless of course.
