I haven't seen the complete show in a long while, but I am starting to watch it on Netflix again. I have kind of a soft spot for this show because without this show I wouldn't have seen iCarly or Victorious, which shaped a lot of my elementary and middle school years (and I know how cringy that sounds but give it a rest).
The main characters are okay. Sam is definitely my favorite character, played by Jennette McCurdy. I won't go into Jennette even though I know what is happening to her lately, I'm just saying she did a good job as an actress. Cat, while she is a lot dumber and annoying in this show compared to the first two seasons of Victorious, I think Ariana did a good job playing her either way. And this is the last real acting role she did before being a full-time pop singer/celebrity.
Dice can be a bit of an annoying character too, mostly because he's "the butt of the joke" and people abuse and make fun of him for no reason, except for the fact that he's just a little eccentric. And Goomer, the man-child MMA fighter, while I found him okay, didn't really make me laugh. Nona and also the actress who plays her is good however, and it's interesting that in the blooper episode, they referenced some of the actress' previous works.
If there's one thing I really liked about this show was the theme song. It's very catchy, but now that I realize, it's a crime to not have Ariana sing it, since she's a popular singer now, and the show could have been more popular if she did so. I also like the show taking place in L.A., as a setting.
But after this show, however, Dan Schneider shows just became generic (like Henry Danger and Game Shakers), so I decided to move on to Disney Channel before they also went bad, after Sam & Cat ended.
I also understand that not a lot of Victorious fans were happy with the spin-off, since iCarly and Victorious already did a crossover episode ("iParty with Victorious"), and that since Victorious was cancelled for this show, why couldn't they have just made a fourth and final season, especially when they probably had the budget to?
But overall, if you like wacky Nickelodeon sitcoms (or Nickcoms) you would probably enjoy this. But to me, it's just an okay, tolerable show, with just a few badly written/annoying episodes.
I used to love this show so much as a kid, but now, since I'm a teen now, it's good but not as smart as other sitcoms that I'm now exposed to.
