As far as I can tell, Forsaken got review bombed by insecure male gamers. How can I tell? Let's compare with another game that shares a lot in common, Mad Max.
Yes, Mad Max. An open world game with lots of POI, activities, and other distractions to amuse us. It too, has a protagonist with a brutal background that makes them less then enjoyable to be around and more often than not, a real downer.
Next, theirs the companion. Chumbucket is also a stalwart aid with plenty to say and with plenty of repetition. But with Cuff, you can turn down the feedback with a handy setting in the options menu. And (spoiler) unlike the ill-fated Chumbucket, who is pretty much murdered by Max (ungrateful much?), Cuff is an integral part of Forspokens story.
Forspoken at least has a much more expansive story to it than the very truncated and derivative plot of Mad Max which apparently did not know the plot of Fury Road or it wouldn't have gone down the Road it did.
So why did Mad Max get more love than the very similar (in just about every way) but more expansive Forspoken?
I would put good money on the not so different protagonists gender and race.
If you look closely, the word woke gets used. A lot. Which tells you everything you need to know.
