So disappointing!! This movie felt flavorless at best. Both the story and the characters were weak and that is a major tragedy because the movie was based on a book that was absolutely captivating with an unique story and incredible character with a mass appeal that would have transferred beautifully to the screen. The movie threw out those character and the entire plot line for Disney only knows what reason and their delivery was liken to baby cereal, watered down, flavorless mush that won’t upset anyone’s stomach. Lost opportunity to create something great and meaningful for children and adults to enjoy.
Ferdia Shaw was a great casting selection in my opinion and the potential was definitely there to create the boy criminal mastermind. Similarly Lara McDonnell as Holly Short had potential but likewise her character just really failed to live up to anything near the great character created by Eoin Colfer. There were so many reasons that this could have been an awesome movie and again it just fell so short. I understand that changes need to be made what adapt a book to film but this adaptation cost Artemis Fowl the integrity that made it worth your time. Even if I’d never read the books, I would have been disappointed.
P.S. For fans of Percy Jackson and/or Eragon, those movies were great adaptations in comparison to this one. 😔
