1. The first Kantara struck a chord with audiences because it beautifully showcased the lives of people in the Western Ghats/Coastal Karnataka (Tulu Nadu), highlighting their devotion to their divine deity. The storytelling around their faith and way of life was heartfelt and immersive.
2. Kantara Chapter 1 on the other hand feels like Rishab Shetty went into a Rohit Shetty-style mode—"now that I have the budget, let’s load the film with action sequences, even bringing in a foreigner, and make that occupy almost half the movie."
3. The focus shifted more towards action and fillers rather than the core essence of the story.
4. The spiritual/divine aspect felt rushed, with little explanation or visual detailing.
5. Key story elements were left underdeveloped or rushed, leaving too much for the audience to interpret on their own.
While the acting is strong, the plot doesn’t quite deliver.
Acting - 4/5
Visuals - 4/5
Storyline - 4/5
Engagement - 1/5
I hope the next chapter hasn’t kicked off yet and will keep the same audience involvement as Kantara not like prequel of Chapter 1.
