Years have passed since I put this book, unfinished, on my book shelf. A recent reference to it on Substack caused me to pick it up & start over. Couldn't put it down. Absolutely compelling. In some ways almost painful to read but it is very close to home.

I have visited El Salvador on 3 different occasions since Jan 1 2018. Read this book before you go (or even if you don't go). The author visited there years ago, during the war. I love El Salvador. However, you must live with ambiguity. There is no black and white. It would also help if you are fluent in Spanish. I have always been with an interpreter. It's complicated. The book is beautifully written.
