A good movie for the family, just like the original. The live action adaptation is just as fun as the animated with some changes to the story that help fill in the wider world without changing the story itself. Don't expect a quote along, but if you want something that feels familiar while being engaging and entertaining this is for you. The only criticism I have for it is that many of the scenes are blurry, especially when things are moving, making for a sometimes nauseating experience for me personally. There are also times where faces are there and gone so fast, you can't get a good look at them, and suffer from the same blurry quality. Other than that? A fantastic time. All the actors bring their characters to life with enthusiasm, and the film clearly was made with love for the source material.

I saw the movie yesterday and from a critical standpoint, this movie is nothing special. The jokes are predictable, the plot is simple, and the visuals are nothing to write home about. All this being said, it's fun. It's full of references for old fans of the game franchise, the cast of characters is large, and easily recognizable, and for an $11 dollar movie ticket to see it in the 2D format it's worth the cost of admission. Chris Pratts performance as Mario is inoffensive and average, as is that of Peach, who comes across as more of a Princess Daisy then herself. The rest of the cast do better jobs in their roles, with the stand out performance being that of Bowser voiced by Jack Black. It's a middle of the road production that sadly does not live up to hype, but if you take it for what it is, it's an enjoyable time.
