Disappointed. Fails to Capture the Eeriness of the Original. Hard to pinpoint what is missing which makes Hitchcock's stunning, old b/w movie even more impressive. I think Lily James is fine as the naive, never-named girl who marries de Winter, but Armie Hammer is too young and friendly to be Max de Winter. He seems neither aristocratic nor deeply mysterious. He also is wearing a canary yellow suit in his first scene which is completely out of character. The director chose to make James and Hammer passionate lovers which completely undermines the arc of the story which is that Max is still bound to his long-dead wife, Rebecca.
