It really doesn't matter what the reader expected to happen. It would end badly. There was no doubt. That wasn't the strength of the book. What was delightful, if that adjective can be used critically, was the study into advancing schizophrenia. The psychosis, the hallucinations, the paranoia, unfolding before our eyes. Yes, this wasn't a sudden onset. It had been dormant, and you knew this early on. And you also knew there was definitely a bad gene. As the reader waited for the inevitable they also got a look inside the head of one type of disturbed mind. I enjoyed it. But, then, I've always been wary of those who put on their impeccable shows of domestic near perfection! Haha!
