I was disappointed (but not surprised) to see that this got such poor reviews. I feel that this movie hit a lot of points spot on for the times that we are currently in. It was especially important (and novel) to see Latinos and Blacks working together in support of one another in such a violent film (on a human level). This is almost NEVER portrayed in mainstream media, which adds to already increasing tensions between two tribal groups of color in LA. It also goes without saying, that you really have to understand that type of lifestyle (and environment) to understand the real anxiety and grip the depth of the things portrayed and discussed throughout the film. The wardrobe (especially for Shia “creeper”) was phenomenal. His suit with a high tailored, high watered fit was PERFECT for this film, with LA and the Vato lifestyle as the backdrop. Over all, it did have a training day vibe (par for the course) but I did appreciate the small things about the film that were specific to LA’s subculture of organized crime. Even with a smaller budget, It still seemed like luxurious, expensive and well tailored.
