Why is our modern day culture so frustratingly messed up when it comes to literature?!! The Iliad and the Odyssey are two of the most important, powerful, inspirational, and magnificently crafted books in the world. If you are having a hard time comprehending these books, maybe try to spend less time playing video games, being an online influencer, watching movies nonstop, and put just a little bit more effort in your ability to read books that are more challenging to swallow unlike Marvel Comics. We, as the current generation, need to eat the Meat which our ancestors have given us and not just chug down the Modern-Day Milk. The Iliad, though it may be tough at times, is still one of the best reads you could have in my opinion. It teaches you to be strong, loyal, forgiving, and brave. It also highlights the consequences when you neglect to grow in these virtues. We are given not only an epic poem, but we are also given so much insight on what the Ancient Greeks and Trojans valued and how they lived in a world much more different than ours. It’s in many ways a worldview book. I still don’t get why this book has gotten a 3.8 rating here on google, I think this is ridiculous and should bring shame upon our society. This book has sparked the light of imagination in many well beloved authors throughout history. And I hope that we aren’t the generation who believes that we are beyond reading whatever may not float our modern day enlightened boats.

Where to begin, I think I know, with the elephant in the ship. It is not just disappointing to see how so many people view true love these days, it is infuriating! The love story between Jack and Rose was cringing and wrong at the very least. Jack I couldn’t help but feel was a bit of a womanizer. And Rose was just another one of those distasteful characters who want what ever they don’t have and will go to extremes to get them even if it cause strife, envy, and hurts the people around them. Overall Jack was annoying and susceptible, and Rose was arrogant and selfish. Someone who I really respect pointed out many of the moral flaws in this movie which are capable of “shipwrecking many lives.” 1 He says “A night affair may be expected to be the apex of her (Rose’s) life. This is how the protagonist views it as an old woman in the climax of the film. 2 Instant sex with a man she barely knows will buy her sacrificial love as Jack places her on a raft and succumbs to the water. 3 The ultimate in life is to go on to pursue your own pleasures as we see outtakes from her later life as a rich woman flying her own biplane and galloping her horse along the surf. 4 ( This is my personal favorite point ) The glory of old age comes from remembering the sins of her youth-her one-night affair-when, as an old woman, she hires a boat to ply the surface above the Titanic so that she can drop her pendent into the watery grove.” Again I applaud this author for slapping the toxic main theme of this movie right in the face. It isn’t a “Romance” story, it is a movie to hype up lust and terrible desires that we are already victims to within ourselves. If Rose and Jack ended up surviving, I am sure we would not see two couples happily living their lives together. Instead we’d probably see them divorced because they both are too selfish of people to take care of each other and love each other well. Now I know I have been quite tough on this movie but I feel it is my duty to not be blind to the lies which this Block-Buster movie has been feeding to so many people who now believe that it is the greatest love story ever told. It is not. As much as I disliked this movie I will give some credit to the fantastic picture which it gave us with how they portrayed the Titanic as an incredible ship that is so grand in how it has impacted our culture and history even today. I will always be asking and hoping for good movies with good characters and a good story line. And I know that Hollywood is capable of doing this. After all they did give us The Gladiator.
