After watching a three part documentary on the Independent State of Croatia, with many survivors telling their stories, I have to say this is pretty accurate. My father told us stories relayed from family members living in Croatia during the war.
This history has long needed to be brought to light. There are those who downplay the brutality but there’s plenty of evidence as to WHAT happened. The only thing that’s not for certain is exactly how many were killed (because the Ustasche destroyed and burned records as they left the camps. There is an agreed upon range of deaths however.
It’s important to remember the Croats living today were not responsible. Nor does this telling of history give justification to what was done to the Bosnians in more recent times. But this history does need to be told and remembered and NOT branded as propaganda, so humanity can be so horrified and disgusted so as to not let it happen again.
