A must see movie that checks all the boxes. Based on a true story, this incredible story reveals the best and worst of times during war. It is a timely movie, given current global concerns, about the confusion and the lack of proper communication resulting in friendly fire.
The best is seen in the faith of Teresa, a Catholic nun, who continually tries to see God through her religious teachings and her own experiences, even testing God's responses to her own behavior. Her faith has the ability to transform and redeem an officer who confronts Sister Teresa and is moved by her faith in God. Seen through the children's eyes, the best is shown through a child's ability to reach another traumatized child with innocence and understanding. Teresa's ability to teach the children about faith is also paramount.
The worst is seen through the misplacement of allegiance to invaders, seen as traitors, who use those who resist as human shields - an act of cowardice. While redemption is revealed in the end, all will suffer due to the bombing of a school. Decisions made in the heat of battle can be devastating to civilians through loss of life and the loss of family and friends.
War sucks.
