This series is in my opinion the best book to screen adaptation I have ever seen. With many of the changes and aspects of the story feeling like improvements. I believe this is due not only to the TV show format but also having Rick Riordan as a producer which led the creation of lots of great small but crucial details and scenes. Currently episodes 1-7 are out and the show really impressed me. It is perfect no, but most of my problems with it are small nitpicks for the most part the show knocks it out of the park.
Here are my thoughts about each episode:
Ep 1: It does a great job of introducing and expanding upon characters by adding the extra scenes which help give us more context about their relationships.
Ep 2: The scenery and set design was on point. The introduction of Mr. D was hilarious. I enjoyed the focus on Luke as a mentor figure.
Ep 3: The series take on Medusa, I feel is an improvement on both the book and the movie. The series changed her from the straight villain into a more complex character. We really get a much better window into her motivations and origin.
Ep 4: While this was probably my least favorite episode of the series, I always found this section of the book rather slow so that could be why. The episode was ok. That said the additional information about Pan and Athena were great. The CGI on the Chimera was amazing.
Ep 5: The casting and portrayal of the gods continues to be excellent. The dialogue is the star aspect of the episode. With a great scene between Grover and Ares.
Ep 6: I really enjoyed this version of the Lotus Casino. The storyline didn't really anything in the book expect waste time. The show on the other hand adds in good satyr lore and helps set up future storytelling during a conversion with Hermes.
Ep 7: While I prefer the book version of Hades and the Underworld. This episode was not necessarily bad just different. The underworld looked cool visually. The portrayal of Hades as much more constant with his character in the later books. Overall a solid episode
In conclusion if you have read the books, like greek mythology or just want lighthearted Fantasy series, I would definitely recommend it.
