The Conclave was an interesting and engaging film providing a detailed look inside the highest levels of the church; portraying the process of electing a new Pope. The Cardinals who make the decision who shall be the next Pope are not flawless men, but represent the people to whom they serve. Many of them are proud of their position and love the power that comes with the title. Just like politicians. There are those who lean toward the left in their thought process and others on the right prefer keeping with tradition. Both groups are not perfect in the eyes of God because they center on what is of importance to them for a variety of reasons. Interestingly enough it takes a nun to bring out the truth regarding one of Cardinal’s former indiscretions which he tried to deny to the head Cardinal of the Conclave. If you’re looking for onscreen sexual indiscretions in the movie, there are none. It was highly engaging to see the politics in a group of highly respected men to select a pope. The final outcome was a choice with a twist which personally speaking, I could have done without, but it was based on a choice that was centered around God from a more liberal perspective. Each viewer will have to make that call for themselves.
