To start with I love this writer and director, big fan. That is the reason I watched this movie. I was a little thrown at the beginning, now, II felt that the lead role of the father was overacted but I'm not clear as to whether or not that was intentional it added such a weird eerie air
to this movie. He overly acted like a modern quirky everyday father of a teenage child. And to add to it the child didn't necessarily react the way the average normal teenage child would. She was very tolerant of his behavior. It did not take me very long to figure out what was going on within the first 20 minutes. So there was really no shock Factor. I have to be honest I found the first hour of the movie that took place at a concert to be a bit annoying due to having to continually listen music and it that ijust went on Non-Stop.
The storyline was a bit unrealistic but as I said I love this writer-director. I do have a hold him to a very high standard. I felt this movie to be a bit beneath what this writer can accomplish. I would say the last part of the movie the was better than it started out and that would be the only reason why I watched it to the end. It was not an amazing movie and that is what I expect from this man, is it completely amazing movie. After THE CABIN and OLD not being 100 percent of what I need from this director. I was hoping he went back to his old ways SIGNS, was such a work of art. As well as UNBREAKABLE and others. It kind of reminded me of some of the bands from back in the 80s that would put out album after album after album of what began out to be great music to almost seeming like they were just putting out whatever they could to stay on the charts. I would rather wait for quality. OVERALL? I Truly can't say it's a block buster. And I'm a little confused as to if the oddness was intentional or just poor acting. The wife of the main character was great. I found it hard to sit through. But, I guess I'm glad I tried.
