We found this book because it came as part of my son's language arts curriculum from The Good and the Beautiful. The curriculum is great on its own, but the reading books make that much better.
If you have a child who doesn't like reading, I would ask you to grab any book in the Badger Hills Farm series and try reading a chapter or two out loud. Once your child has a taste of it, they won't fuss when they are asked to read it on their own. That's what happened with my son and he made it a difficult thing to get him to read at all before this. Something about going through the days with the characters just made him identify with them.
And there is nothing inappropriate in the story line at all. Just kids being KIDS.
