This movie is the DEI take on the German bombing of London in 1940. I was not persuaded by the scenario of an unmarried white working class girl with a child by a black man from Grenada. Mother, boy and grandfather fit too seamlessly into their community. A few muttered asides about her โlittle monkey,โ but not the grit and angst and rancor that such an unusual family south-of-the-Thames would have experienced. The worst scene is the lecture in the Underground station by the Jewish โdifferently abledโ guy on Unity. Cringey cringey. The Dickensian Bill Sykes episode is also bizarre. Several reviewers mention the unrealistic costumes. Indeed. If you want to see a superb rendition of workers in poverty, watch season four of โBabylon Berlin.โ
