This book is absolutely amazing. It really adds to the backstory of the Games and really shows us what happens with President Snow.
A lot of people say there's no backstory either for some of the details or characters, and I can't understand why they're saying that. This novel IS the backstory.
Some people are also disappointed that there is no protagonist to root for. Well... what did you expect? This book isn't about a hero. It's a story about how a young man becomes this corrupted murderer.
On a more positive note, this book was so elegantly written. It was so well laid out as well. The plot moved at a steady pace and I couldn't put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.
I don't think that it really matters if this book is ready before the other trilogy or read after because either way it clears up some questions and adds new details.
I really liked the way that this book was so much like the original trilogy but it had it's own flair. It's own universe.
Even the characters were more diverse, and I think that's very important for readers. It shows the author taking society for what it actually is and molding it into their work.
