if you watched this movie for the trailer, you would be madly disappointed. what was sold to us was not the product at all.
plot is extremely slow, such an interesting premise of an unexplained disappearance of 17 children and they managed to fumble even that.
movie cannot decide if it wants to be funny or suspenseful, and humour is often executed in the form of swearing or making characters seem awkward and relatable. if that wasn't bad enough, why would you ever make such a gruesome and solemn event such as the disappearance of children into a humorous event?
several plot holes are in place and have no reason to be introduced. no idea why they chose to put classical jazz music over the VERY disturbing clip of children disappearing into the dark. if they were going for the "disturbing because of the juxtaposition" vibe, it fell flat completely. it took away from the severity of the situation and i was not concerned for the children at all.
the affair, the needle, the clown were beyond UNNECESSARY. what was the point?? and the giant gun?? not to mention the tremendously overdone cliche of the dream segment where the characters somehow dreams of critical clues to the situation at hand.
ending was abrupt, with little to no explanation of what exactly aunt was doing, and why the spell was not broken, or the outcome of the children.
all in all, do not recommend.
