I saw this movie at the age of 18, and it instantly became my favorite. Years later, I watched this again, with my son (age 11 at the time), and we both looked at each other, with tears in our eyes, at the end. The entire movie is a mix of emotion, though the Holocaust will forever be a tragedy, of epic proportions. There's humor, but not at the expense of those that suffered these atrocities. There's romance, drama, very intense or suspenseful moments... And although the viewer is privy to horrors occurring, love always protects, always preserves... And the love of the Father, in this film, does everything in his power to protect his son. This is true sacrificial love, that knows no end. Life isn't always beautiful, and the movie shows some of the ugliness and evil, but life, can be beautiful, if we love one another. It's worth at least one watch; though I plan to watch it occasionally, as I have been for 24 years now.
