I was pretty impressed with this movie and Patrick’s skills as not just an actor but a director in his directing deput! I was not expecting too much going in but walked out thoroughly surprised. The movie follows the Lambert family but mostly Josh and now college aged Dalton as their memories are beginning to resurface from movies 1 and 2. What I liked most about the film was it was not just about scaring people it was a movie about family, grief, betrayal, and sacrifice. The strength of this father son relationship is the key to saving their family but a strong relationship is the farthest thing from what Josh and Dalton have. I’ve never watched this many emotional moments in a horror film and they were even able to add in some comedy into the film without it taking away from its main genre and purpose. Don’t worry, despite the tear jerking moments and chuckles from time to time it was still definitely scary and there was a ton of jump scares! Ty Simpkins, who plays teenaged Dalton, did really good and fit the role perfectly! Overall, really enjoyed the film! The song that plays when the ending credits begins also features Patrick Wilson, which I found to be a really unique way of him leaving a special touch on this first film as a director and the last chapter in the Insidious franchise. Great movie!
