One thing common to all Shankar films till 2010 โ impact. For the few hours you watched the filmโand even afterwardโthey touched that passionate corner of your heart, inspiring you or making you want to bring about a change in society, even if only for a brief moment. The issues were highly relatable, and the core drama, built with strong emotions, tied everything together. Most of the characters added value to the proceedings and were integral to the story.
This is where Gamechanger misses the Shankar touch. Mind you, it's not a bad movie. It's engaging for the most part and keeps you curious about whatโs going to happen next. But that interest is never paid off properly (Paapam Dil Raju #iykyk ๐ฅฒ). The classic Shankar tropes and shenanigans are all there, but only as fluff. Interesting ideas pop up, but they donโt hit deep. No big โwowโ moments. No lasting impressions. The writing, for the most part, lacks the punch and magic youโd expect from his films and leaves you feeling underwhelmed by the end. It uses the trademark Shankar template, yet feels very superficial in its execution and layering.
All said and done, itโs still a decent watch. Appanna deserves a movie of his own. RC, my maaan ๐ค๐ค๐ค Twitter lo evaro anattu, "Nuv natistunte mee naanna kanpistunnaadu, maatlaadtunte mee babai vinpistunnaadu" ๐ค๐ค๐ค
