I keep comparing it to the real Psycho movie (1960, obviously, not the horrible Vince Vaughn remake) and it comes up very, very short. Even the book is amazing. It doesn't make you feel you're reading something old or boring, even though it was written on the tail end of the 1950s.
I REALLY had high hopes for it, but I was bored to death.
Anthony Perkins with Janet Leigh was great chemistry. He was gay, irl, but I think that his "passing," (if you will) or any ambiguity to his sexuality adds to the suspense. I thought he was gay (even as a little kid) with the very feminine movement going upstairs and wearing a good deal of eyeliner, even tho his being gay doesn't come up in the book. I thought the boyfriend was cute, but kinda stiff and not the best actor.
I LOVED the psychologist! It made me major in it!
Maybe it'll be like "Fargo," and I'll have to try it again. The real one with Frances McDormand. Btw, that "big scene" was REAL. Helle Crofts. Her husband, of course, killed her, irl. It was Forensic Files, S1, E1. Husband was a pilot, so if you watch Mayday Air Disasters, you can see the mentality of guys who crash planes for something really dumb...he made lots of mistakes that got him caught.
