I love Wes Anderson films, I love the aesthetic, direction and humor. More broadly, these days, I am very supportive of anything that doesnt involve superheroes being made.
That being said....
The last two films from Wes Anderson, Asteroid City and The French Dispatch, have suffered from the same problem. Fundamentally they are both boring, to the point that I remembered what it felt like being in a maths lesson at school. There are lots of equations happening in front of me but none of them are interesting and ultimately, like learning trigonometry, everything in this film left me with a sense of why am I doing this and is there any point to any of it. Given that I havent used trigonometry once since I learnt the relevant formulas 17 years ago, I think we can all agree the answer is no.
I nearly gave the film two stars simply for the aesthetic, but then I remembered how bored I was and rightfully gave it one star.
