No overt spoilers, but you might be able to infer a thing or two from this. I want to like this show, I really do. But I cannot feel sympathy for anyone in this show except Bash anymore, and I haven't even finished the second season. I'm quite certain that the writers have done something to make me dislike even him in the future. Mary is fickle and inconsistent, she has a great period of growth in the first season, but seems to forget the strength she and wit she found within herself once the second season starts. There is an incident that occurs that should effect her judgement, however, even then, she still has an inconsistent arc of priorities and capabilities. At times, she is apt socially, at others, she forgets how to look toward even the most obvious of motives. Francis is overall incompetent at doing the one thing he was trained to do his whole life. He cannot, for all his power or wealth, maneuver with the grace of a bull in a porcelain shop with red walls. Kenna is greedy, insatiable, and generally spoiled. Lola, I have indifference towards, as I do Catherine. Lola knows when to be satisfied, but she also knows how to muck things up. Catherine is Catherine, but at the very least, she stays true to herself and her desire to secure safety for herself, and power for her line. This isn't to say that I don't like it when characters change and grow, but when their growth is suddenly forgotten as they make mistakes that they should know better by now, it is inconsistent and indicative of careless writing. Greer is actually a decent character, who changes, adapts, and grows, so she gains not my sympathy, but my support. Her biggest flaw, which presents itself over and over, is her indecision based on choosing what would traditionally be the "safe" choice. Bash, the poor bloke, is basically a punching bag for every character. Yes, he has more than a few lady friends throughout the show, never one behind the back of his love. He only takes another when he believes he should be truly moving on from his last. And yet, his good traits are constantly getting him into situations where he has to sacrifice either body or heart for the good of the realm or others, all while he sincerely tries to do right by them. Leith is similar, a good and honest character. He knows what he wants, and he tries for it when he can, and doesn't when he shouldn't. As for the accuracy or inaccuracy, I don't really care. The court musicians played Sia's "Chandelier" at a party. What really irks me is that a member of royalty or nobility can be the only one to witness a crime and suddenly think they have something over the perpetrator. As if they couldn't just make the accusation after just getting the person alone. If the perpetrator is of lower birth, or the accusation serious enough, they can literally just say they did it and it'd have to be seriously considered.
