Great movie and I was loving it until the end. Why on earth would this movie be written to end without the satisfying conclusion of Rachel getting to meet her mother? Never in my life have I been so disappointed by an ending. I feel like the whole movie built up to that yet we don’t get the satisfaction of seeing them finally get to meet. Very disappointing. If it wasn’t for that, this would be absolutely perfect and probably one of my favorite Christmas movies I’ve seen this year. Another plot hole is why did Jacob have such estrangement from his mom? Why didn’t they get along? Why were they not talking for so many years? He said he had not spoken to his dad in 35 years. Yet he was maybe 5-6 yrs old when his brother died so now he is about 40? And he left home at 17 and had not seen his mom in 23 years? Why? Kind of makes him look like a jerk that he never gave his mom the time of day, even if she never recovered having lost a child. They don’t explain that at all. He didn’t even show any emotion when he found out his mom died. Just because she was isolated or a hoarder doesn’t mean she ever did anything to him, but they never explain why he stopped talking to his mother, which didn’t bode well for his character. And they didn’t so Rachel, breaking up with her fiancé at the end, and confessing her love to Jacob. Last we hear from her lips she says she doesn’t love him. Then she shows up on the curb and the movie ends? Without a word? No profession of love, or taking back what she said. I’m sorry, but this really could’ve been a fantastic movie with just a few tweaks. The biggest flop was not allowing Rachel to meet her mother at the end. Makes no logical sense to me why they ended it like that.
