I'll give it 4 stars but really im thinking 3.5 is closer to my actual rating. This is because while it is a good book and a brilliant addition to the series I struggled to keep up in places. Just as I started to feel engaged in a story line the pace changes to a whole new setting which loses my attention. There were way too many things going on and I honestly have no idea who a good portion of the characters are or their relationships with Carl. There are simply too many at this point and they just randomly show up and i find myself trying to remember who the hell they are.
I found myself audibly saying "what on earth is going on?!" a few times and even walking away from the book to do something else because i just wasnt keeping up.
I get that its trying to get across the utter chaos that's going on but its just too much information for the reader to digest. We cant invest in any one character or situation well enough because we are bombarded by new settings, new characters, long AI dialogues, flashbacks etc.
