Most "romance" genre novels made for TV movies are poorly written and/or acted, rather like the canned and repetitive Hallmark Christmas movies.
Season one of Virgin River at least has recognizable characters and is following the book's story line. So far, so good. I am looking forward to Season 2. I have read all of Robyn Carr's books. Admittedly, romance genre books are predictable and mostly follow the same beginning, middle and end. However, I read them for entertainment, not for deep thinking.
They play out in the mind easily, and there is usually a very satisfying ending.
Virgin River is worth the time spent escaping into a story that will end well, even if it is predictable. The books take a number of turns and have a lot of different, yet connected, characters, so there should be material for many more seasons.
