I don't write reviews often but here it goes. I didn't know who the D'Amelio's were until Hulu recommended the show to me. I give both girls a lot of credit. They are both amazing and talented and are deserving of everything positive they are receiving - the money, the fame, the credit, the opportunities, the positive comments, etc. They don't deserve to be torn down by haters. They also showed bravery and transparency you don't see often and they get extra kudos for mental health awareness. It opened my eyes to the "behind the scenes" of stuff. I knew most of what we see on social media is fake, but this gives you an honest look about the reality of things.
Now - constructive criticism and it's for their parents.
This whole stardom thing happening by accident was mentioned a LOT by Charli and honestly I was shocked at how demanding her schedule was, given she was only 16 years old.
When you watch the show, you will see the parents are more interested in keeping the kids busy and making the cash, than they are about their well being.
When the parents opt to giving her some "time off" I was thinking "great! finally - maybe they'll give the kid a month or two to regroup, to relax, to be a kid" but then they ended up having to make the "big decision" to get her some time off that ended up only 1 week. I was floored by that. And I am pretty sure they are making good cash themselves from the kids fame. Otherwise, why would they put so much pressure on them, especially Charli?
How much are the parents making from this? The kids are the ones putting their identities on the line and getting ripped apart, not them.
Also - about the haters online - you can turn the comments off. I was unfamiliar with TikTok until now but the show made it seem like there was no way to stop the comments, however, you can stop them by turning them off and also by not monitoring it. They have a whole staff of people. It's a business now, and neither girl should have to look at comments - turn them off or hire someone else to do it.
Health and wellness first. Money second.
