I remember watching an episode where a dog needed a procedure to save its life but the owner couldn't afford it. It was heartbreaking to see the owner call her husband in tears and tell him what their options were. She literally sat on the floor and cried because she knew she couldn't afford the surgery. She said it was either feed her kids or save her pet. She and her husband decided that they would put their dog down because they couldn't afford the surgery. I'm just wondering how Dr. Brenda could stand there and watch this woman break down like that and not go to Dr. Pol and ask if there was something they could do. Why would anybody think it was okay to just put an otherwise healthy animal down who would have survived with surgery? I cry along with that woman every time I see that episode. I know vets have to make money, but this dog was only a year old and would have been fine, so why couldn't Dr. Pol just say, "Hey, he's a family pet, he's young, I get it. This one I'll do for free," or at least put the family on some kind of payment plan. However, if you don't have animal care in your budget, maybe you shouldn't have a pet.
