It really is a channeling of a few movies, where they seem to have distilled a blend of Weekend at Bernies, Ghost, and Castaway, and ensconced the essence of Brokeback Mountain during every pause in dialogue where the protagonists stare all over and at each other. Unlike, say The Black Panther, where they introduce the never before heard of vibranium to explain the powers and magical strengths on display, and somehow you willingly accept it and can enjoy the movie, Swiss Army Man just doesn't reel me in with its literary hook, and utterly fails to give me a way to come up with my own device. In the end, I laughed some, reflected on human nature a little less, and felt spiritually moved not at all.
