HOW TO CHANGE THE OIL ON YOUR 2006 NISSAN MURANO
Park the Murano on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
Gather your tools and supplies: a wrench, oil filter wrench, new oil filter, new oil, drain pan, funnel, gloves, and a jack with jack stands (or ramps).
Consult your owner's manual for the correct oil type and capacity (usually 5W-30 for most conditions).
2. Lift the Vehicle:
Use a jack to safely raise the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Alternatively, use ramps for a more stable lift.
3. Locate the Drain Plug and Oil Filter:
The oil drain plug is typically located on the bottom of the engine oil pan.
The oil filter is usually near the engine block and can be accessed from underneath the vehicle.
4. Drain the Old Oil:
Position the drain pan under the drain plug.
Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug. Be careful, as the oil may be hot.
Allow the oil to drain completely, which may take several minutes.
5. Replace the Oil Filter:
Loosen and remove the old oil filter using the oil filter wrench.
Lubricate the rubber gasket on the new oil filter with a bit of fresh oil.
Screw on the new oil filter by hand until the gasket makes contact, then tighten it a half to three-quarters of a turn.
6. Replace the Drain Plug:
Install a new crush washer on the drain plug (if applicable).
Hand-tighten the drain plug and then use the wrench to tighten it to the manufacturer's recommended torque (22-29 ft/lbs for the Murano).
7. Add New Oil:
Locate the oil fill cap under the hood and remove it.
Use a funnel to add the correct amount of new oil (approximately 4.2 quarts with a filter change for the 2006 Murano).
8. Check Oil Level and for Leaks:
Replace the oil fill cap.
Lower the vehicle.
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
Check the oil level using the dipstick and add more if needed.
Carefully inspect the drain plug and oil filter for any leaks.
9. Dispose of Used Oil Properly:
Take the used oil to a designated recycling center.
