In my opinion, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories stands out among the early ‘Grand Theft Auto’ games for several reasons:
It had one of the most engaging storyline’s and main characters such as Vic Vance, a protagonist with a unique backstory. Unlike many GTA characters, Vic starts with a relatively clean slate, adding depth to his descent into crime.
Vice City Stories also incorporated improvements to gameplay mechanics such as improvements to combat, particularly melee combat and the ability to swim (a very welcomed addition).
The game also had many unique features such as ‘Empire Building’ system, which allows Vic to establish and manage his own criminal enterprise. An amazing added layer of strategic gameplay.
Also the inclusion of real-life figures, like Phil Collins, with an in-game performance, this was a hilarious and memorable mission.
And lastly, the ‘Vice City Stories’ Atmosphere.
The developers of Vice City Stories definitely aimed for a different visual aesthetic, resulting in variations in the colour and intensity of the beautiful and different sunsets compared to Vice City.
This is still my favourite GTA game and will home a special place in my heart.
