Honestly, I’ve never sat through any of Lokesh’s films in their entirety. But I’ve always been a Rajini fan. Coolie was a letdown: unnecessarily long and cluttered with too many plot twists.
That electric/plasma whatchamacallit chair which vaporizes bodies?
Rajini, of course, delivered as always. Logic, as always, took a back seat. But sometimes, a simple, linear storyline works far better — especially when you have someone like Rajini, whose sheer swag and mannerisms can carry a film on their own.
I actually had more fun watching Jailer — even if it still puzzles me how an ex-prison warden suddenly becomes an expert in firearms and tactical warfare. With the frontal lobe switched firmly off, Jailer at least showcased an ageing Rajini in his most entertaining form.
To Lokesh — better luck next time.
