A fun mish-mash of 80's movie tropes, this could be described as the 'Buckaroo Bonzai' of crime thrillers. Kevin Kline is a hero firefighter...and also a genius detective with a wry sense of humor...and also a break-all-the-rules iconoclast with no respect for authority. Yup, he's an 80's hero alright. Go into this expecting 'Silence of the lambs' and you'll be disappointed...but if you're a fan of quirky detective who occasionally face real action (like Monk, or any modern Sherlock), you'll have a good time.

This thing is off-the-rails CRAZY! It's fun to watch just for the kitsch value - it's weird and awkward and makes no sense, but also never fails to surprise you. Try not to read anything about it before you watch it. I saw it for the first time as a kid when my grandma left this weird Michael Jackson VHS at my house...I wasn't a fan, but one night my sister and I rand out of things to watch and we were blown away and really confused all at the same time. Amazingly it got even weirder over time, but now that Jackson himself is gone you can feel relatively guilt-free in coming back to enjoy all the oddities this bizarre little time-capsule has to offer. If you were looking for a retro-gangster-science fiction-gritty cyberpunk-crime drama- action-fantasy-claymation-adventure, congratulations, you are high, and you just found that curiously specific thing you wanted to see. It's kind of a movie with everything for everyone that makes no sense and is really a not a movie and is for no one except Michael Jackson himself...but you should still watch it.
