Good: Stayed close to the look and feel of Peter Jackson’s films, even some creatures like Fell Beasts are identical. It’s not as woke as the trailers made the show appear, which is a relief. I thought Valinor, Khazad-Dum, and other areas of Middle Earth feel just as one would imagine, and they’re beautiful. And the short and sweet summary of the First Age war was enough to set the stage! And most of all, the second episode left me wanting more. More about the characters, more about Sauron and forces of evil, and more about Middle Earth!
Bad: Some action sequences like the snow troll seem subpar compared to the combat in Peter Jackson’s films. Given the budget I expected better. I also have no problem with new characters like Harfoots, but they need to make the story more interesting not less! Some Harfoots scenes make me feel like falling asleep.
Much more good than bad so far. If combat picks up and world building is successful, this can easily be the greatest fantasy series ever. For now 3.5-4/5
Wow, just watched episode 3 and dropped to a 2... so much bad dialog from this episode. **SPOILERS ** "The sea is always right"?? Really?? Uncomfortably weird scenes like Galadriel on the horse and the Harfoots marching around chanting. And the plot is just off, like the elves refusing to cut a tree down and then the most non sad death scene ever... I'm feeling pretty upset after this episode.
Edit - just watched episode 5, I can't believe it but they literally lost all momentum. Nothing to hold onto character or storywise, other than thinking "how did middle earth go from this to the third age from Peter Jackson's films". My nostalgia for those films are the only reason I keep tuning back into this show
