TL;DR: The worst film my friend and I have ever seen. We walked out of the cinema 1 hour in....We have never walked out before! Do not waste your money. It was a constant mind blast of "wtf" is happening. Nothing aligned, the camera styles were weird.. It kept referencing medieval times. It jumped between flashbacks uncontrollably making scenes choppy. Utter madness that this is a carry on from the other two. Terrible audio. Made no sense and built 0 tension. Summary, spoilers too: I think it's important to give feedback so that people can learn.... I am not a director but my friend did a media/film making degree and even she was as shocked as I was. Essentially, the main issues we both agreed on were: -Story line - constant weird flashbacks with no context, the story barely held together. A little boy and his dad, going on mainland for the first time.. Then they came back. Then he runs off with his mum when we don't even know what is wrong with her. So much medieval stuff, then someone wearing a mask.. It wasn't done in a thriller way, it just felt like your head was being hammered against a wall. -The audio didn't make any sense, especially early on. Background ambience was really ear shattering at points and didn't fit the scenes. There was no build up. No tension. So many other horror films do this better. -It failed at being a zombie movie - I cannot stress this enough, it would be possible for zombies to still be wearing clothes.. They all seemed to be naked, some crawled on the floor.. It was so strange. It lacked synergy between the concepts. -locations: so sporadic, a series like the walking dead for example, you are aware of the progress being made, where people are... We had no clue where the hell they were half the time. Two original films did this perfectly! I love video games, I adore horror, we both left muttering how terrible it was and how we couldn't sit through any longer. My friend made a really good comment, you wouldn't watch star wars and expect their to be fairies and dragons. This had so much stuff that just didn't fit. Don't watch it. Or do but you will regret wasting your time! As if this review wasn't bad enough, I have heard other mentioning Jimmy saville ninjas and stuff, like honestly. I don't mind crude jokes etc, I think we should have more dark humour like we used to. It just doesn't fit!!!
