With absolutely no context of American Jewish life, I really liked this movie. I wanted to take a break from studying and wanted a light-hearted coming of age movie, and that's exactly what I got. The music was good and there were some good chuckles in there. But reading the other reviews, I guess there were some major discrepancies and stereotyping, which flew right over my head without knowing anything about American Jewish life. I actually think I learnt a lot about Bat Mitzvahs because I barely knew anything before. Anyways, if you want a colourful, heartfelt, yet light-hearted movie, while coming into with complete ignorance, this is it.
