MILD SPOILERS:
If you like to read implausible, unrealistic murder stories, then this one is for you! I had high hopes going into this one based on reviews, but was quite disappointed. As stated by other lower reviewers, the author TELLS us what is happening instead of painting a picture. For example, one of the twists in the wine cellar…definitely could’ve been more of a painted picture rather than just stating Brooke’s thoughts. I feel like SO MUCH more detail could’ve been given here!
A lot of points throughout had me rolling my eyes and laughing at how unrealistic this book could be. How are the main male characters getting acquitted of crimes and released from prison in TWO months?? No follow ups with any kind of therapies or after care of some kind? Nobody questions Brooke’s constant back and forth with her testimonies? The cops are like “oh ok she said it was actually this guy so just swap them real quick no problem!” Cue another eyeroll.
Also, Brooke is an absolute dunce of a woman. Bland. No personality. Weak. Who just lets their 10 year old son go off with an ex-inmate (regardless if they were guilty or not) like three days after they’ve been released from an 11-year long prison sentence? Absolutely WHACK details if you ask me.
And as far as Tim goes…RUN! Why are you still here?? Move on!
DNA evidence was also not used in any of the crimes testing. Over the course of 11 years, you’re telling me no one tested the DNA until the end of the book to solve every murder that happens suddenly??
Another part that bothered me was how Brooke just “couldn’t deny Shane” sex the first night in her house. Like girl…have some self respect.
Edit to add: forgot to address the snowflake necklace! How is someone strangling another person with a dainty snowflake necklace? I mean, COME ON FREIDA!! What is the necklace made of?? Any time that necklace was mentioned, I cringed. At one point, I thought it would be fun to make a game out of how many times I could count “snowflake necklace” being mentioned in one chapter.
I did have a mild dopamine boost because I enjoyed the very last line from Josh only because it felt very full circle. That’s it. But I did NOT understand how this measly icicle was able to be used as a bat multiple times.
If you want to laugh along with my frustration and disbelief at how bad this was, then this book is definitely for you!
