I know this is supposed to be a mindless creature feature that is not intended to be taken seriously, but I simply could not suspend my disbelief sufficiently to avoid being taken out of the movie constantly. While the examples of literally impossible occurrences are numerous and egregious, there is perhaps no better example than the scene in which the female lead is told by her father that she is a faster swimmer than the alligators. Just how implausible is that claim? Well, the top speed of an alligator in water is 20 mph, whereas the fastest speed ever recorded by a human swimmer barely exceeded 5 mph. Anyone with even a passing understanding of alligator physiology will find many more instances in this film where the characters blatantly defy reality. I know most people probably won't be overly bothered by this, but it simply broke my immersion too much for me to be able to enjoy the film.
