I dressed up, bought premium tickets and drove an hour out of town to watch this movie in 4k. As a Hungarian Jew, I was elated that this figure (not yet known to be fictional due to the historical implication) would be being honoured, his story told. As a Harmony Korine and slasher fan, I am so snowflake or stranger to disturbing cinema.
Immediately, the character becomes an antagonist to women as a john at a brothel, which I tried to look past, as it isn't clear if he told the woman to keep the money, but is dear friends with the man encouraging him to "fuck her!" We then discover he's a cheater, as his wife and DAUGHTER are proclaimed to be alive. Later on, he is discovered to be a voyeuristic john, consuming the outright, explicit, lengthy pornography which I would have preferred to never see. The directors and producers ensure that as much graphic and explicit content is shown for as much time as imaginably possible. The amount of gratuitous (mostly female) nudity in movies today are nearly on-par with the level of how accessible and in-demand that the pornography they showcased is today.
I left shortly after the second act began. I've heard about what happens in the second act and know that I wasn't missing much to turn it around. The entire movie is Oscar fodder and it's hype is chalked up solely to the budget.
